What are the benefits of membership
in your organization?
A.
Some of the benefits of membership are the network for assistance,
the opportunity for voluntary continuing education and fellowship
with other notaries who share the same interest, and be a
factor to assist in the guarding of the Notary heritage by
the interaction of PCLNA with the legislature which could
affect the laws regulating the Civil Law Notary profession.
PCLNA
makes available to its members through mail, email, or this
website, an informative monthly newsletter.
There are
forms and/or other pages of information given out at the meetings
which are helpful in your notary duties
Q.
Do I have to live in the Shreveport
area to become a member?
A.
Members do not have to live in the Shreveport area to be a
member of PCLNA. They can live anywhere but they MUST LIVE
in their jurisdiction, OR KEEP an office in at least one of
the parishes to notarize in their jurisdiction, which is six
parishes: DeSoto, Caddo, Bossier, Webster, Bienville and Claiborne.

What are the qualifications for
membership?
A.
Qualification for PCLNA membership are to be a Civil Law Notary
in good standing with the State Civil Law Notary Department
in Baton Rouge, to fill out an application for PCLNA, with
approval of the board, have paid up yearly dues and preferably,
meeting attendance, with opportunities to be involved with
the workings of the Association
Q.
Must
the the signatory of
a document live in one of the six parishes?
A.
The signatory
can be from anywhere, even another state, but the documents
will need to be notarized in any one of the six listed parishes
and the notary will have to be licensed in that area.
Q.
How does one become a notary in
the state of Louisiana?
A.
If an
individual wants to become a notary, that person will need
to take classes, then take a test, given by the State, and
passed , to be commissioned by the State. Louisiana notaries
are commissioned for LIFE.
Q.
Is there any continuing education
required?
A.
Louisiana
does not require a collection of educational hours nor mandatory
continuing education. IT IS ALL VOLUNTARY and necessary to
stay abreast of the ever -changing Civil Law Notary laws.
Q.
How often do you meet?
A.
Our
association meets monthly, except December, with speakers
and open forums to further the continuing voluntary education
of the notary.
